The Annual Scrabble Municipal Schools Competition is our flagship event — but throughout the year we run school clubs, training sessions and friendly tournaments.

Theme: "Reigniting students' love for education through gamification."
Junior high schools across Tarkwa go head-to-head across multiple rounds for the championship cup, plus prizes for top boards and individual high-scorers.

What's at stake?

Championship trophy for the winning school, individual medals, certificates of participation, and surprise prizes for the highest single-word score and the best sportsmanship award.

Day schedule

What to expect on the day.

A full Saturday of word battles, learning and celebration.

8:00 AM

Arrival & registration

Schools check in, teams get their official Scrabbleton tee, and players settle into their boards. Coaches and parents grab refreshments.

9:00 AM

Opening ceremony

National anthem, welcome by the organising committee, and a few words from our headline sponsors at the GoldFields Foundation.

9:45 AM – 12:30 PM

Round-robin matches

Three rounds of team play — every school plays multiple opponents, with rolling leaderboards displayed for the audience.

12:30 PM

Lunch & spelling-bee mini-game

A quick crowd-favourite spelling round for spectators while finalists are confirmed.

2:00 PM

Semi-finals & final

Top four teams advance — knockout stage, with live commentary from our adjudicators.

3:30 PM

Closing & awards

Trophy presentation, individual prizes, a group photo to remember, and a thank-you to our sponsors and volunteers.

How it works

Get your school on the board in 3 simple steps.

Register your team

Fill in our short form to enter a school team of three students aged 9–15. Registration is free.

Train with our materials

We'll send a player handbook, sample puzzles and the official rules pack to help your team prepare.

Show up and play

Arrive on game day, get kitted in your Scrabbleton tee, and let the tiles fall where they may. Good luck!

Frequently asked questions.

Who can participate in ScrabbleTon GH? +

Teams of three students from junior high schools in the Tarkwa Municipality are eligible. Players should be aged 9–15. Each school may enter one team per edition.

Is there a registration or participation fee? +

No — registration and full participation in ScrabbleTon GH is completely free for all schools and students. Our sponsors cover the costs.

When and where is the next competition? +

The 3rd Edition is on Saturday, 20th March 2027 at the GoldFields Foundation Hall, Tarkwa. Doors open at 8:00 AM and the opening ceremony begins at 9:00 AM.

How does our school register? +

Use the contact form on our website, select "Register a school" as your topic, and tell us your school name and the name of the supervising teacher. We will reply within two business days.

What happens on competition day? +

Doors open at 8:00 AM for check-in and kit collection. Opening ceremony at 9:00 AM. Round-robin matches run from 9:45 AM to 12:30 PM. After a lunch break and spelling-bee mini-game, semi-finals and the final take place from 2:00 PM. The closing ceremony and awards are at 3:30 PM.

Can parents and supporters come to watch? +

Absolutely! The venue is open to family, friends, teachers and the public. Spectators make the atmosphere — come and cheer on your team!

What can students win? +

The winning school receives the championship trophy. Individual players earn medals, and every participant receives a certificate of participation. There are also surprise prizes for the highest single-word score and the best sportsmanship award.
